About Ryan Auto Mall and Our Family History

Ryan Auto Mall is a locally owned, family-owned dealership group serving Buffalo and Monticello, Minnesota. Our group includes Ryan Chevrolet Cadillac in Buffalo, Ryan Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Buffalo, and Ryan Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Monticello.

Ryan Chevrolet and Ryan Cadillac are the two franchises at our shared Ryan Chevrolet Cadillac dealership in Buffalo. They have separate brand websites and share one physical dealership location. Our Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealerships operate at separate locations in Buffalo and Monticello.

The Ryan Family's Automotive History

In 1960, Mr. Robert Ryan Sr. opened his first dealership on 9th and Minnesota in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Mid Town Motors sold used vehicles, and Mr. Ryan's son, Bob Ryan Jr., soon got his start in the car business, sitting on the bench in front of the dealership, shining shoes at a nickel a pair.

Six years later, the Ryan family opened Ryan Motors Chrysler Plymouth in Sioux Falls, earning Chrysler's "Pacemakers Top 100 Club" award for many years.

After a relocation to Houston, Texas, in the 1970s with Katy Road Chrysler Plymouth, the Ryan family returned to the Midwest, opening an Oldsmobile store in Brooklyn Park and then, in 1976, our Chevrolet dealership in Buffalo, MN. By this time, Bob Ryan Jr. had worked his way up to become the Dealer Principal.

Our Dealerships Grow in Buffalo and Monticello

Bob Ryan Jr. added the Cadillac franchise in 1984, establishing the Chevrolet and Cadillac franchises that share our Buffalo dealership today. In 2011, the Ryan family opened a Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership in Buffalo. A second Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership opened in Monticello in October 2018.

In June 2015, Bob Ryan Jr. celebrated 40 years in the automobile business. His focus on taking care of customers, from the early days of shining shoes to the vehicles we sell and service today, remains central to the family's approach.

The third generation of the Ryan family is now fully invested, continuing their father's tradition of high standards and caring for customers. While the shoe shining has ceased, they still take care of their customers every step of the way.

Recognition for Our Dealerships

Ryan Chevrolet Cadillac has earned nine General Motors Mark of Excellence Awards. Across the Ryan Auto Mall group, our dealerships have earned 70 DealerRater awards, including the 2025 Minnesota Dealer of the Year awards for Cadillac, Chevrolet, Dodge, and Jeep.

These awards reflect the customer experience that remains a priority for our family and teams. We encourage shoppers to read customer reviews, ask questions, and contact the dealership responsible for the vehicle or services they are considering.
